Star Studded Ghost Stories III Sells Out UPAC and Raises Funds and Awareness for Astor Services

KINGSTON – A sell out crowd enjoyed the third annual Ghost Stories event Saturday night, held at the Ulster performing Arts Center in Kingston.

The evening was hosted by local residents and TV and movie celebrities Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  The event is an annual fund raiser for Astor Services for Children and Families in Rhinebeck, NY.

The very first Ghost Stories event raised enough money to begin a renovation project at Astor in the children’s wing spearheaded by Burton.  Since then, through donations, volunteers, and fund raising the upgrades and renovations have encompassed both girls and boys living quarters at Astor.  Each renovation carefully took into consideration a personalized theme for the children to make their experience at Astor feel like a home environment.

When we first conceived the idea of Ghost Stories, we asked what kind of a kid friendly activity we can do as adults where people can feel like children again?”, noted Burton.  “Gathering around and telling ghost stories is what we did all through elementary school and middle school and high school, so it seemed like a natural fit.”

The Ghost Stories event has many of the celebrities, including Paul Rudd and Mary Stuart Masterson, reading stories written by the children at Astor.

“Every year I’m amazed by the storiess that they’re able to come up with.” said Jeffrey Dean Morgan. “They’re usually funny and touching and scary and you realize they are a very creative bunch.”

Mary Stuart Masterson has come back for a third year and stated ” Everyone has a story, and the kids who are residents at the Astor home have incredible stories”.
