CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department and multiple agencies are working at a 7-story building collapse that fell onto a three-story building.
This occurred about 4 p.m. today.
Reports are that one woman is trapped, but conscious. She was rescued about two hours after the collapse.
Several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
This is at the corner of Cannon St. and Academy St.
Poughkeepsie FD stated the old Cleveland building on Academy St. collapsed.
Rescue personnel evacuated the building at 19 Academy Street.
Volunteers from the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to residents and first responders on Monday night.
Red Cross volunteers were on the scene throughout the evening to provide food and water, emotional support and casework services to those affected. In total, volunteers served 125 meals and distributed over 500 bottles of water on Monday night. The Red Cross also provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to a family of five.
