POUGHKEEPSIE – The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is hosting a Citizen Police Academy.

The eight week academy will run from Mar. 20, 2018 through May 8, 2018 and will meet each Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Police Department Officers will offer attendees insight into how police officers perform their duties and serve the community.

The purpose of this program is to allow attendees to become familiar with their Police Department through classroom instruction and practical experience. It is the Police Department’s intent to share with participants “who we are and what we do”, in an effort to enhance police-community relations.

The Citizen Police Academy will be held at the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Training Room located at 19 Tucker Drive, Poughkeepsie.

The Citizen Police Academy is open to Town of Poughkeepsie residents and persons owning a business in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Attendees must be 19 years of age or older. Class size is limited and there is no cost to attend the program, Eligible applicants will be subject to a background investigation before considerations and will be selected based upon a successful background investigation.

Attendees are also required to sign a Background/Photo Release, Liability Waver and Medical Release forms.

Completed applications must be submitted on or before Friday Feb. 23, 2018.
