MONROE – State Police in Monroe arrested Yudah Zimmerman, age 24 of Kiryas Joel, for Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Accident (E Felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor).
Police said on Nov. 9, 2016, at 5 p.m., the State Police in Monroe responded to a hit and run accident on Siget Court in the Village of Kiryas Joel.
An eight year old boy was found lying unresponsive in the roadway after having been struck by a vehicle, said police.
The vehicle had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
The boy was transported to Westchester Medical Center and treated for serious internal injuries.
After an extensive investigation, State Police identified Yudah Zimmerman as the alleged driver of the vehicle that stuck the child, according to police.
Police said Zimmerman had been working as a delivery man in the area at the time of the accident.
The case was ultimately presented before and Orange County Grand Jury and on Dec. 14, 2017 Zimmerman was indicted on the charges.
Yudah Zimmerman was arrested and remanded to the Orange County jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail pending further court proceedings.
