WHITE PLAINS, NY – The John Jay Patriots boys basketball team has a new look this year with the addition of Aiden and Brady Hilderbrand. The Hilderbrands are transfers from last season’s Our Lady of Lourdes Class A state runner up basketball team and look to make an immediate impact up at the Class AA level. While the team’s season debut came up a little short, in a 67-61 road loss to White Plains, the Patriots’ roster looks pretty solid.
Returning impact players include Isaiah Tullo, Justin Long, and Tommy DiRusso, and Alex Mackey’s long range accuracy will round out the Patriots offensive attack this season.
It might take a few early season games for the players to get used to each other as head coach Terry Feeley reflected after Monday night’s game. “Offensively we need to trust each other a bit more with only 13 assists, but it was a good effort by the boys and a lot to build on as we move forward.”
The Patriots started Monday’s non-league game in a quick 9-1 hole thanks to the hot shooting of Eisaiah Murphy. Murphy hit three 3-pointers and finished with a total of 26 points.
John Jay had four players in double digits, led by Aiden Hilderbrand and Justin Long with 14 points each; Hilderbrand had six steals and Long picked up 10 rebounds and was also a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Brady Hilderbrand finished with 12, and Alex Mackey had 11 points and three 3-pointers.
The Patriots gave the ball up 17 times.
John Jay is back on the road Wednesday when the Patriots face Red Hook in another non-league contest.
