LAKE KATRINE–A 32-year-old female pedestrian died Tuesday afternoon after she was struck by a CSX freight train near the Grant Avenue crossing, according to police.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the investigation shows that she committed suicide.
The incident happened off state Route 9W in the area of the Tractor Supply store at around 1:15 p.m.
Town of Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi said train crew members were aware of the woman crossing the tracks but were unable to stop due to speed. The train was headed north. Berardi said he did not know how many cars the train was carrying or what its destination was.
Police said no further details will be released.
