EAST FISHKILL – Two New York City men are facing felony charges in Dutchess County following a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill on Nov. 12, 2017.
According to the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks, the driver, Jacob A. Alvarez, age 25, of Brooklyn, was allegedly intoxicated and in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Inside the vehicle both Alverez and his passenger Matthew R. Santiago, age 23, of Queens, were allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, crack cocaine, a scale and packaging materials, said authorities.
Alverez later submitted to a chemical text which allegedly showed a 0.15% Blood Alcohol Content.
They were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor. Alvarez was also charged with Driving While Intoxicated, an Unclassified Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a Violation.
Both subjects were arraigned at the Town of East Fishkill Court. Alvarez was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash or $60,000 bond.
Santiago was remanded in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing was tentatively scheduled for a later date at the Town of East Fishkill Court.
