MONROE – New York State Police in Monroe are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Nov. 10, 2017, at 11:15 a.m. in the Village of Kiryas Joel.

A school bus traveling east on Acres Road at the intersection of Lemburg Road stopped to let several children off.

According to authorities, Leah Mezzi, age six of Brooklyn, exited the bus and proceeded to a south sidewalk and abruptly changed directions and began to cross the street in front of the bus.

The bus driver did not see her change directions and she was struck by the front bumper, said authorities.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

State Police BCI, Commercial Vehicle Unit and Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating.

Investigation is ongoing at this time.
