POUGHKEEPSIE – The Chamber Foundation, Inc., has announced that the keynote speaker for the 2017 ATHENA Awards Reception will be Kathy E. Magliato, MD, MBA, FACS, on Nov. 30.
Dr. Magliato’s personal and professional successes tie into the ATHENA Leadership Model, which captures the spirit and collaborative leadership style often exemplified in women leaders, while also recognizing the importance of courageous acts and fierce advocacy in pursuit of excellence.
Now in its twelfth year here in the Hudson Valley, the ATHENA Awards focus on the personal traits of strong, successful leaders. This year, 11 honorees have been chosen to join the more than 95 local women who have been honored in the past.
Dr. Magliato is one of the few female cardiothoracic surgeons in the world. She is currently on staff at Saint John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica, California and is the founder, chief executive officer, chief medical officer, and chair of the board of Cordex Systems Inc., a private company that is developing a diagnostic cardiovascular medical device for which she holds the patent. Her keen interest in promoting cardiac health for women led her to be the first woman to ever hold the position of president of the board of the Greater LA County American Heart Association and she was recently promoted to serve on the AHA’s largest affiliate board: the Western States Affiliate. She has been highlighted by the media as an expert in heart disease and has been seen on numerous national networks and television talk shows. Her memoir “Heart Matters” was published in 2010 and was made into a medical drama on NBC in 2015.
The ATHENA Awards reception, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, will be at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls from 5-8 p.m. and will feature the ATHENA honorees being recognized for their accomplishments in their careers, community volunteer involvement, and willingness to serve as a mentor – especially to women in the business community.
