MINISINK – The Minisink Valley Teachers Association is sponsoring an informational forum on the NYS Constitutional Convention resolution which will be on the ballot in this year’s election on Nov. 7.
In attendance will be Assemblyman James Skoufis of the 99th District, and Assemblyman Karl Barbenec of the 98th District, as well as candidates for Orange County Legislature from the 20th District, Janet Sutherland and Ken Pinkela, to participate in the discussion.
What do these twelve words actually mean? “Shall there be a convention to revise the Constitution and amend the same?”
According to a Minisink Valley Teachers Association press release: At stake, if the resolution passes, are possible revisions to environmental protection laws, state debt limits, state budget spending caps, as well as, redirecting monies in state pensions, and retirement securities for state spending initiatives.
It continued on to say: At the very least, the cost of the convention would create an unnecessary financial burden to the taxpayers. The constitution is already revised through amendment.
The Teachers Association is inviting the public to be a part of the discussion and join them at the forum.
It will take place on Oct. 26, 7 p.m. at the Minisink Valley High School Auditorium.
