TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A City of Newburgh man was arrested early Wednesday morning at 12:48 a.m., and charged with felony DWI.
According to Sheriff Carl Dubois, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies observed a vehicle speeding on Rt. 17K in the Town of Newburgh.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, said Sheriff Dubois, but the vehicle continued into the intersection of Poplar St. and Fowler St. in the City of Newburgh.
During the vehicle and traffic stop, deputies interviewed the driver, who was identified as Edwin Rodriguez, age 40, and allege he showed signs of intoxication. Rodriguez was administered a Standardized Field Sobriety test which, he failed, according to the sheriff.
He was arrested and transported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and provided a breath sample that allegedly recorded at .14% BAC.
He was charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated, having been convicted of a previous DWI, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, a felony.
Rodriguez was arraigned before Judge Clarino in the Town of Newburgh Court and was remanded to the Orange County Jail with no bail. He is to return to court at a later date to answer the charges.
