POUGHKEEPSIE – Family Services’ SNUG program will be holding a rally on Thursday, Oct.12, 6:30 p.m. in Mural Square on Main St.
This rally will serve as a response to the shooting of two men early Sunday morning in Poughkeepsie.
The event is free and open to the public.
The “shooting response” is a component of SNUG’s efforts to address and reduce gun violence in Poughkeepsie.
The purpose of the response is to change community norms by allowing the community to express concerns and make a statement that shootings and killings are not acceptable in our community.
Funded by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and in partnership with the City of Poughkeepsie Police, Family Services’ SNUG program is based on the nationally known Cure Violence Model which focuses on reducing gun violence and creating greater safety in the city streets.
This evidence-based violence prevention program focuses on youth between the ages of 14 and 24 who are at risk for involvement with gun violence.
The work of SNUG includes one-on-one risk reduction strategies as well as community organizing interventions, all intended to save lives, help individuals turn their lives around and galvanize the community in resistance to gun violence.
