Medicare: Open enrollment begins this week (Part 3 of 3)
Provided by Dutchess County Office for the Aging
POUGHKEEPSIE – Every year’s Medicare open enrollment period begins on Oct. 15, so we are only days away from the start.
If you are trying to get caught up on Medicare knowledge, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging has published a special edition of the “Spotlight on Seniors” focusing specifically on Medicare issues.
The Dutchess County Office for the Aging has it available at the county website www.dutchessny.gov/aging, by email to the people on their contact list, and they are also mailing it to those on their postal mailing list. If you are not online and would like a copy, call the Office for the Aging at (845) 486-2555 to be put on the free “Spotlight on Seniors” mailing list.
The Office for the Aging continually presents free training sessions on Medicare for residents who are approaching the age of 65 during the upcoming months.
Attending one of these workshops will help seniors and their caregivers obtain a basic overview of what Medicare is and what it covers.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, EPIC, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medigap plans will all be discussed. Everyone is welcome.
One set of programs takes place at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Community Room from 10 a.m. – noon on the following Wednesdays: Oct. 18, Nov. 15, Dec. 20 and Jan. 17, 2018.
Additionally, there will be 90-minute sessions at the Center for Healthy Aging at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 and Monday, Nov. 27. There will also be one session on Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pawling Library, 11 Broad St.
If you have some computer knowledge, you may also want to learn about “Navigating the Medicare Website” and other sites you can visit to be more informed about available plans, services and insurances.
Join the Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) staff at the Adriance Library at 93 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 or Wednesday, Nov. 23.
