KINGSTON – Two town of Marlborough residents were arrested and charged with weapons possession by Members of the ULSTER REGIONAL GANG ENFORCEMENT NARCOTICS TEAM (URGENT).
On October 6, 2017, at about 1 p.m., the Marlborough Police received a tip that a woman was allegedly attempting to sell an unregistered 44 magnum handgun, according to authorities.
The woman, who they identified as Leasha L. Ladow, age 49 of Marlborough, was located by members of the Town of Marlborough Police in the Hamlet of Milton and arrested.
Police allege she was in possession of the handgun.
U.R.G.E.N.T. was notified of the incident and responded to the Town of Marlborough to assist. Through investigation, members of U.R.G.E.N.T. developed information the defendant and the defendant’s roommate were allegedly possessing additional firearms illegally, said police.
U.R.G.E.N.T. and the Town of Marlborough Police executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence on State Route 9W in the Town of Marlborough.
Inside the residence, five unregistered handguns, four shotguns, one rifle, two metal knuckle knives, one switchblade knife and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition were located, according to police.
Police also noted the defendant’s roommate returned home during the search and rapidly fled the area in a motor vehicle when he saw police at his residence.
Marlborough Police quickly pursued the roommate, who they identified as Aaron L. Busch, age 34 of Marlborough, and stopped him on State Route 9W. Busch was arrested and turned over to U.R.G.E.N.T.
Ladow was charged with the felonies of Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the 3rd Degree (1 count), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (1 count), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (5 counts) and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (3 counts).
Busch was charged with the felonies of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (1 count), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (5 counts) and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (3 counts).
The defendants potentially face additional charges as the investigation remains open until the origin of all the firearms is confirmed, said police.
Both defendants were arraigned in the Town of Marlborough Justice Court and were remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 secured bond.
The defendants are scheduled to appear in the Town of Marlborough Justice Court on a future date and time.
