POUGHKEEPSIE – A monthly event that has been described as a “movement” for the City of Poughkeepsie continues to grow.
First Friday Poughkeepsie is a FREE event that brings the entire community together in an effort to increase awareness of the City, and showcase it as a thriving, safe, and attractive place to live and do business.
It is a city-wide celebration held on the first Friday of every month from 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
First Friday events bring Downtown Poughkeepsie to life through food, music and art. The event offers residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the City of Poughkeepsie, engage with their community and neighbors and patronize local businesses.
On Friday, Oct. 6. This October, the organizers and sponsors of First Friday Poughkeepsie will present a San Gennaro festival at Dongan Park – across from Noah’s Arc in Poughkeepsie and minutes from the Poughkeepsie train station. This San Gennaro themed event will feature Italian vendors, Italian art and Italian performers. And as with each First Friday event, local eateries and shops will stay open late, additional pop-up shops will line the streets and music will fill the air.
Vendors as of September 20 include: the Poughkeepsie Italian Center, Rossi’s Deli, Essie’s Restaurant, La Deliziosa, Cosimo’s, Noshi Coney Island, Schazi’s Pub, Mill House Brewing Company, di’Vine Wine Bar, The Brown Derby, Gino’s Pizza, Noah’s Arc, Amicis, and Dutchess Outreach Mobile Market where visitors can purchase fresh produce. There will be a market section featuring freshly made pastas, sauces, and produce.
Activities for families will include a drum circle where participants are encouraged to bring their own hand drum and join in, face painting, and pumpkin decorating. Queen City Dance, the Pirandello Institute, Plaid Magic Hat, and Traditional Okiinawan Karate of Pleasant Valley will perform demonstrations. Roberto Milenese & Angela Bruno will perform traditional Italia/American music, and DJ Smitty will DJ live and JWill of 96.1 Kiss FM will be the MC.
First Friday is being presented in partnership by Rhinebeck Bank, LCS Companies, and R.L. Baxter Building Corporation. Additional support has been provided by Poughkeepsie Journal Media, iHeart Media of the Hudson Valley (96.1 KISS FM), and M&O Sanitation. These local businesses have taken the lead in the First Friday initiative and in making the City of Poughkeepsie a better place to live, work, stay and play.
Located in the heart of the mid-Hudson River valley, Poughkeepsie features a revitalized waterfront park, a bustling Metro-North train station, fabulous restaurants, and is only 90 minutes north of New York City. Poughkeepsie is fast becoming a favorite destination for weekend travelers, culinary connoisseurs, artists, and outdoor enthusiasts.
