POUGHKEEPSIE – Safe Harbors of the Hudson has presented Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation with its prestigious Cornerstone of the Community Award in recognition of the energy company’s efforts to improve neighborhoods in the City of Newburgh.

The award was presented at a gala event in downtown Newburgh on Sept. 27.

“Though our programs are developed to help the communities we serve and never to earn recognition, we were pleased and proud to accept the Cornerstone of the Community Award. Our company was founded in Newburgh in 1900, and it has been especially meaningful for us to be honored for the opportunity to contribute toward its revitalization,” said Anthony Campagiorni, Vice President of Regulatory and Governmental Affairs at Central Hudson.

Central Hudson employees were also recognized for their volunteerism in support of community causes, here participating in the annual Newburg Community Day cleanup event.

Among many other efforts, Central Hudson recently provided an economic development grant to a partnership comprised of Safe Harbors, the City of Newburgh and the Newburgh Community Land Bank. Central Hudson’s $250,000 Main Street Revitalization grant was used in part by Safe Harbors to create a public park between Liberty Street, Ann Street and Broadway, adjacent to its renovated building, the former Hotel Newburgh. Central Hudson employees were also recognized for their volunteerism in support of community causes in Newburgh, including the annual Newburgh Community Day cleanup event.

“We’re appreciative of the continued support provided by Central Hudson and their employees’ spirit of volunteerism. We were happy to recognize them with our Cornerstone of the Community award,” said Lisa Silverstone, Executive Director of Safe Harbors.

Safe Harbors of the Hudson is a mixed-use, non-profit housing and arts redevelopment project in the City of Newburgh. For more information, visit www.Safe-Harbors.org; and for more on Central Hudson in the community, visitwww.CentralHudson.com/Community.
