POUGHKEEPSIE – The Italian Center and the Ladies Auxiliary invite local dignitaries, members of the Italian-American community and the general public to join them in recognition and celebration of Italian Heritage Month, as designated by Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison.
The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, with an opening prayer by Father Armond, the Italian Center Chaplain, and a wreath-laying at the statue of Cristoforo Colombo outside the Italian Center.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the History Room at the Center, 227 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie (entrance from Mansion Street).
Following the ceremony Lou Del Bianco will give a 45-minute power-point presentation on his grandfather, Luigi Del Bianco, who received a long overdue official recognition as the Chief Carver on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial by the National Park Service on September 16, 2017. Lou Del Bianco will have copies of his book Out of Rushmore’s Shadow: the Luigi Del Bianco Story available for purchase and for autographing.
After Mr. Del Bianco’s presentation, guests are cordially invited to enjoy a hot and cold Italian buffet luncheon in the History Room at the Center. The cost is $20 per person which includes tax and gratuities. A cash bar will be available.
Advance reservations are required for the luncheon.
