POUGHKEEPSIE – Pulmonary and sleep medicine specialist Dr. Fareeha Hafeez has joined the Health Quest Medical Practice Division of Pulmonology.
“As a provider, my goal is to serve patients in the local community and provide them with excellent healthcare,” Hafeez said. “I believe a healthy life is a gateway to a successful life.”
Pulmonology is the study of diseases affecting the respiratory tract. Pulmonologists, also known as pulmonary disease specialists, specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of lung conditions and diseases.
Hafeez also specializes in sleep medicine. Sleep specialists are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and aid in the prevention of sleep-related disorders, such as sleep apnea and insomnia.
She earned her medical degree from Punjab Medical College in Faisalabad, Pakistan. She furthered her education with a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Harlem Hospital Center, an affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in Manhattan.
She completed her fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
From 2009 to 2011, Hafeez served as a postdoctoral research scientist with the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University in Manhattan where she investigated the impact of traffic-related air pollution among asthmatic and non-asthmatic children.
She presented her research findings to the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
