UNION VALE – On August 8, 2017 at 11:22 a.m., Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to assist EMS with a subject reported to be pinned underneath a fallen tree.
An investigation revealed that 38-year-old Zane A. Grey of Union Vale was felling trees with a chainsaw, clearing a vacant parcel of land located on Mallory Road, according to police.
The victim was struck and became pinned underneath the large tree.
First responders arrived on scene and immediately attempted to remove the victim from underneath the tree.
He lost consciousness and troopers, assisted by EMStar EMS, commenced life saving measures.
The victim was transported to MidHudson Region Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said police.
The incident remains under investigation and appears to be accidental in nature.
The State Police were assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Also responding to the scene were Union Vale Rescue Squad, the Union Vale Fire Department and EMStar Ambulance.
