POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall is celebrating its 30th anniversary since opening in 1987.

As the largest shopping center in Dutchess County, the Galleria Mall sits in the center of Dutchess County on Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie, with a broad collection of local, regional, and national stores.

“We certainly couldn’t be here without the community”, commented the Galleria’s General Manager Kate Fakler

The Galleria is owned and managed by The Pyramid Companies, a group who also owns and manages the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown as well as the Palisades Mall in West Nyack.

The upscale shopping center boasts over 1,100,000 square feet and recently underwent a five million dollar renovation.

The mall’s 1987 grand opening included  G. Fox and Co., Jordan Marsh, Lechmere, Steinbach and J.C. Penney as anchor stores.  Today, only J.C. Penny remains, but the mall has added several other national stores including Macy’s, Sears, Best Buy, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

In all, there are 140 shops and 14 restaurants, as well as the Regal Cinemas 16-screen stadium seating movie theater.

“We’re not just a shopping center”, said Marketing Director Jessica Pecchia, “We’re a community center, we’re Main Street, U.S.A.”

Offering opportunities for local non profit organizations as well as hosting events at center court, the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall staff is always looking for ways to give back to the community.   “We think it’s really important to hold events here not just to have events that draw people here, but to be a part of the community with events that are for the community”, added Fakler

The ribbon cutting ceremony was officiated by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.   “It’s very vibrant”, offered Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Vice President Rich Kleban, “there’s a lot of large retail organizations around the country that are not in as good a situation, and that’s a credit to the management and the staff of the Galleria.”

The celebration continues into Saturday with a car show in the JC Penny parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is coordinated by Sunrise Communications and Fox Oldies 98.9 and 94.5 FM
