FISHKILL, NY– The Hudson Valley Renegades pitching staff pitched its best collective game of the season and the result was a 1-0 extra inning win over the Staten Island Yankees in at Dutchess Stadium Sunday night.
Credit the Yankees pitching staff for matching the excellent work by Renegades pitching and the result was just three hits in the game after eight innings of play.
In fact, the only extra base hit of the game came in the bottom of the 10th when Isaac Bernard led off with a double. After Bill Pujols drew a walk off Staten Island closer Eduardo Rivera, Vidal Brujan delivered the game winning RBI with a single to the right field wall off reliever Greg Weissert.
Eduard Rosillo was awarded the win for the Renegades .
Brendan McKay started the game in his professional debut and struck out four in two innings of work. Johnleider Salinas picked up the mound duties in the third and threw five innings of scoreless ball, allowing just one hit while striking out five.
Despite the loss, the Yankees still have the best record in the New York Penn league with a 25-14 first place position, three games ahead of the second place Aberdeen Ironbirds. Hudson Valley sits in third place in the standings , three games under .500 at 18-21, and seven games out of first place in the McNamara Division.
