FISHKILL – On Jul. 14 just after midnight, members of the Town of Fishkill Police were called to investigate a strong-armed robbery at the Gulf gas station on Rt. 9.
According to Town of Fishkill Police Chief James Schepperly, an off-duty officer observed two subjects wearing hooded jackets enter the Gulf station on Rt. 9 in Fishkill and became suspicious.
The officer confronted the subjects who both attempted to flee in separate directions.
One subject, who was identified as Rashaad L. Burns, age 26, was taken into custody by the off-duty officer following a short foot pursuit and brief struggle.
The other subject fled the scene and is still at large, said Schepperly.
Several hundred dollars was recovered and alleged to have been proceeds from the robbery. Schepperly said no weapons were used in the robbery. The defendant was also wearing latex gloves and a mask on his face to conceal his identity, added the chief.
Burns was charged with Robbery in the 2nd degree, a C felony.
He was arraigned in the City of Beacon Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $200,000 bail / $100,000 cash.
Schepperly said this case remains open and additional charges are pending.
