SAUGERTIES – Saugerties Police responded to a report of a dump truck vs train crash at Kings Highway early Friday morning July 7 at 6:34 a.m.

Investigation by police determined that Jhon F. Orozco-Giraldo was operating a 2015 Kenmore Tri-Axel Dump Truck when he allegedly failed to stop at a railroad crossing and struck an oncoming CSX locomotive, according to Saugerties Chief of Police Joseph A. Sinagra.

Although the dump truck sustained extensive damage, Sinagra said Orozco-Giraldo was not injured in the crash.

Orozco-Giraldo was issued a traffic summons for failure to stop at the crossing, which is posted in addition to having a stop sign on both sides of the tracks, said Sinagra.

The Mount Marion FD, Centerville Cedar Grove FD, DIAZ Ambulance, DEC Police and the CSX Railroad Police assisted at the scene.
