Teen Dies After Being Hit By Car in Town of Ulster

TOWN OF ULSTER–A 17-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a car Thursday afternoon on Lucas Avenue near Spring Lake Drive, according to officials.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Jennifer Curry of Kingston.

Detective Lt. Dirk Budd said Curry was was walking north on the shoulder of the road when she was hit by a southbound 2007 Infiniti sedan driven by Carol Melamed, 69, of Kerhonkson. The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m.

The victim, was transported to HealthAlliance’s Broadway campus, where she died, Budd said.

Members of the state police Collision Reconstruction Team were at the scene at 4:30 p.m.

Budd said the incident is in the early stages of investigation. He said the driver stopped after hitting the victim.

A patron from nearby DiBella’s Pizzeria called 911 to report the incident.

In a release issued Thursday, school officials confirmed that Curry was a student at Kingston High School. Grief counselors were on hand at the high school and J. Watson Bailey Middle School to help students cope, the release said.
