SAUGERTIES – A Saugerties resident is under arrest for allegedly stealing jewelry and a credit card from the home of a Village of Saugerties resident where the defendant was temporarily living, according to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra.
Shawnee S. Riley, age 20 of Saugerties, was arrested following an investigation by detectives after a homeowner discovered several pieces of jewelry were stolen along with her daughter’s credit card.
The defendant, said Chief Sinagra, allegedly brought the stolen jewelry to a Saugerties Antique store in the Village of Saugerties and was paid over $500 for the jewelry.
The defendant is also accused of making unauthorized purchases with the stolen credit card without the owner’s knowledge, added the chief.
The defendant was located by police detectives and interviewed and then charged and processed on the Felony of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and the Misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
Riley was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Saugerties Village Court to answer his charges on June 26, 2017.
