Renegades Media Day 2017

FISHKILL – The operative word at Dutchess Stadium this year is NEW. While the Renegades enter their 24th season of summer baseball, their are plenty of people, players and stadium upgrades making debuts.

Announced earlier last year, Steve Gliner comes back to the Hudson Valley Renegades as President. Gliner was here during the initial ground breaking back in 1994 and stayed for 10 years before taking a position with the Fort Myers Miracle. “It’s great to be back.”, said Gliner. “This place has been great for me. I love the Hudson Valley and we have the best fans in the league, no doubt.”

Craig Albernaz will head up this year’s squad as manager, filling the void left by former skipper Tim Parenton, who left for a head coaching position at the University of North Florida. Parenton led the Renegades to the NY-Penn League championship series last season. “My goal is to help the players further their career to realize their dreams of being a big leaguer,” said Albernaz.

Upgrades to the park include a multi-million dollar video scoreboard that will provide game highlights and video replays, along with the popular “fan cam” and other fun images and graphics.

Fans can expect upgrades to the restrooms and picnic areas as well as more protection for spectators sitting directly behind the dugouts, with backstop netting stretching out across the home and visitor dugout roofs.

Most all of the new crop of Renegades were in attendance for Friday’s Media Day, where players and reporters get acquainted.

One of the players getting a lot of attention was Hunter Schryver, a 7th round draft pick out of Villanova and Big East Pre-Season Pitcher of the Year. “I just try and get ahead of the hitters with my fastball”, said Schryver. “And I’m trying to get better with my change-up for right handed hitters”.

The season begins on Monday June 19th with a couple of road games, followed by the home opener on Wednesday June 21st. Gates open at 6 p.m.
