NEWBURGH – City of Newburgh Police report that Sgt. Kevin Lahar observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Broadway, May 18, just before 8:30 p.m. and noticed the driver to be a wanted felon sought in connection with two previous vehicle pursuits throughout Orange County that day, according to authorities.
Sgt. Lahar attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The driver failed to comply and continued westbound on Broadway which led to a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit ended in the Town of Newburgh when the driver lost control of his vehicle, and was apprehended by Officer Palermo and his K-9 partner Brix.
The driver, who was identified as 45-year-old Hector Camacho Jr. of the City of Middletown, was placed under arrest and charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st (Class D Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st (Class E Felony), Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Reckless Driving (Misd.), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (Class A Misd.), Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer (Class A Misd.), and several other misdemeanor charges he was held pending arraignment in City Court.
