POUGHKEEPSIE – At 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 26, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call through Dutchess County 911 of a suicidal man armed with a gun in the parking lot of MidHudson Regional Hospital.

When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a 40-year-old male sitting in a vehicle in the Emergency Room parking lot that was threatening the use of a handgun to commit suicide.

Members of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Unit, along with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiations Unit made contact with the man.

After about two hours the man surrendered and was immediately taken into custody without incident and safely escorted into MidHudson Regional Hospital for Mental Health evaluation and treatment.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fairview Fire Department.
