STONY POINT – On April 18, 2017 the Stony Point Police Department arrested Marc A. Melter, age 25 of Tomkins Cove, NY (formerly of New City) on predatory sexual assault charges against a child.
Stony Point Police detectives arrested Melter after investigating a report of a possible sexual assault on a child which occurred in a Tomkins Cove apartment during the past month, according to authorities.
Detectives allege that a child less than 7 years old was the victim of several violent criminal sexual acts.
The Rockland County Child Protective Services was notified and assisted in the investigation.
He was charged with 3 Counts: Predatory Sexual Assault against a child less than 13 (Class A-II Felony), 3 counts; Criminal Sexual Act 1st degree against a child less than 11 (B Felony), 3 counts: Aggravated Sexual Abuse 2nd class (C Felony), 1 Count: Assault 2nd degree, serious injury to victim less than 7 (D Felony).
The top charge is a Class A-II Felony and carries a maximum sentence of life in prison with a minimum sentence of 3-8 years.
The defendant was arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court by Judge Frank Phillips and remanded to the Rockland County Jail on no bail.
He is to appear in court at a later date to answer the charges.
