POUGHKEEPSIE –  Religious studies expert Robert Orsi will deliver the annual Frederic C. Wood Lecture on Wednesday, March 29, 5:00 p.m. in Taylor Hall, room 203 at Vassar College. This event is free and open to the public.

Religious Professor Speaks On The Catholic Clergy Sexual Abuse Crisis

Orsi’s lecture, “Religious Dimensions of the Catholic Clergy Sexual Abuse Crisis,” will draw from his extensive research on Catholicism.

Orsi’s scholarly work uses historical and ethnographic methods as well as psychological theories of imagination to study religion in modern America. He has written several award-winning books on the lived religious practices and experiences of American Catholic men, women and children, including The Madonna of 115th St. and Between Heaven and Earth: The Religious Worlds People Make and the Scholars Who Study Them. Orsi is Professor of Religious Studies and History and Grace Craddock Nagle Chair in Catholic Studies at Northwestern University.

This event is the Department of Religion’s annual Frederic C. Wood Lecture and is co-sponsored by the Women’s Studies and American Studies Programs and the Department of History.
