MILLBROOK – The Dutchess County Long Rifles (DCLR) was recognized by the Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs as the 2016 Sports Club of the Year at its annual dinner in late January.  The DCLR is a 4-H Shooting Sports Program in Dutchess County.

Long-Rifle-4H-Awards-Night-ClubThe award was presented by Bill Conners on behalf of Federation President Paul Annetts to Dutchess County 4-H Program Coordinator Robert Jenks, who accepted it on behalf of the club members.

Bill Conners recognized the club for “teaching the importance of handling firearms and archery equipment responsibly and safely” to our area youth. The club was also recognized by the Federation as the fastest growing youth shooting program in the region.

Additionally, NY State Senator Sue Serino, representing the 41st State Senate District, also awarded the DCLR with a Certificate of Recognition for being recognized by the Federation and for the program’s “commitment to teaching the importance of handling shooting sports equipment responsibly and safely.”
During an awards night held in December 2016 at the American Legion Post 178 in Millerton, club members were recognized for their marksmanship achievements in the shooting disciplines of Archery (Recurve and Compound), Air Rifle, Rifle, and Pistol.

Long-Rifles-4H-Serino-CertificateIncluded in the awards presented were the Junior Top Scorer and Top Shot awards. The Junior Top Scorer is awarded to the 4-H’er who achieves the highest total Junior Score in the Dutchess County Long Rifles during the 2015-2016 4-H year. The 2016 award was presented to James Cerven.

The Top Shot is awarded to the 4-H’er who achieves the highest total number of expert qualifications in the Dutchess County Long Rifles during the 2015-2016 4-H year. Emma Jenks was the 2016 award recipient.

Several other awards were also presented during the awards night celebration.

  • Junior Archery (Compound): Grace Gilroy – Sharpshooter.
  • Intermediate Archery (Compound): Elizabeth Gilroy – Sharpshooter.
  • Senior Archery (Compound): Spencer Thomas – Expert.
  • Junior Archery (Recurve): Katie Beichert – Marksman, Logan Cavey – Marksman, Amelia Fatigate – Marksman, Anthony Strollo – Marksman, Christopher Marra – Sharpshooter.
  • Intermediate Archery (Recurve): Connor Cavey – Marksman, Matthew Secreto – Marksman, Tyce Lambert – Sharpshooter, Carly Grudell – Sharpshooter, James Cerven – Sharpshooter.
  • Senior Archery (Recurve): Kiersten Marra – Marksman, Satu Greer – Marksman, Cody Grudell – Marksman, Emma Jenks – Marksman, Jasmine Lambert – Sharpshooter.
  • Air Rifle: Kieran Read – Marksman, Charlotte Read – Marksman, Elizabeth Gilroy – Marksman, Nadine Karchmer – Marksman, Logan Cavey – Sharpshooter.
  • Junior Rifle (.22) (age 12 & 13): Braeden Lambert – Marksman, Deo Read IV – Sharpshooter, Thomas Beichert – Sharpshooter, James Cerven – Sharpshooter, Kelsey Jenks – Expert.
