NEWBURGH – Winners of the “Most Interesting Deals of 2016”  in New York state were awarded last Thursday during Upstate Venture Association of New York’s first annual “Deal Celebration” at Mount Saint Mary College. Local investors, entrepreneurs and company executives joined keynote speaker Mary Stuart Masterson to network and (ultimately) further stabilize our local economy.

“We always have had a strong commitment to the local business community here in the Hudson Valley,” said Mount Saint Mary Chairman of the Board Charlie Frank.

“This place is crawling with talent,” said Masterson, whose Stockade Works was founded last spring. “I grew up on film sets; there’s such an opportunity in the Mid-Hudson Valley for production. I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened here.”

“Eco Shrimp Garden is the first indoor shrimp farm in New York State,” explained its founder, Jean Claude Frajmund, who offers a fresh, organic alternative to abundantly available frozen shrimp flooding the market. “I pitched Hudson Valley Startup Fund January last year, and they helped me to hire consultants to build the growth model to expand.” Eco Shrimp Garden also happens to be the first ever investment made by the Hudson Valley Startup Fund (HVSF), which launched last June.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work hand in hand with great companies like Eco Shrimp Garden,” said HVSF Founding Manager Member Chad Gomes, who wants “to professionalize Hudson Valley companies from startup through growth.”
