GOSHEN – The Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation will host dementia information and support meetings from 3 to 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, beginning on January 19.
The free sessions are open to the public and will be held in the Senior Dining Lounge on the Valley View campus, located at Two Glenmere Cove in Goshen. For more information, call 845-291-4186.
“This informational support group will be a great resource for the caregivers and loved ones of those affected by dementia,” Valley View administrator Laurence LaDue said. “The discussion topics will change monthly to provide guidance related to the many challenges associated with the progression and symptoms of dementia. We are looking forward to hosting these important and informative meetings.”
Francine Raponi, a licensed Social Worker who is trained in group counseling, will facilitate the meetings. The first session will include a discussion about memory loss vs. dementia. Raponi has worked with the aging population for more than 10 years as an Adult Protective Social Worker and as a Medical Social Worker.
“Many families who have been affected by dementia have questions related to the changing behaviors, needs, and emotions that their loved ones have developed,” Raponi said. “This support group will give guidance and emotional support for individuals who may find some comfort in learning more about dementia and in hearing the experiences of others.”
