STONE RIDGE – SUNY Ulster Basketball standout Padraic Parr from Red Hook, NY, has earned the SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2015-16 academic year, as announced Tuesday by SUNY System.
A total of 78 student-athletes from SUNY colleges across NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III and the NJCAA were honored. The award is given to students who have combined academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. For a SUNY student-athlete to be eligible, he or she must be a member of an All-Conference or All-Tournament team.
“Recipients of this award are honored for high achievement in and out of the classroom, accomplishment marked by hard work, dedication, and discipline,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “Congratulations to each of this year’s SUNY scholar athletes, and thank you to the many faculty, coaches, and staff across SUNY who mentor and support them.”
Parr helped the Ulster Men’s Basketball program to its most wins in the last 4 seasons during the 2015-2016 campaign. Parr also led the Ulster Senators in rebounds per game and assists per game in his first collegiate season, and was recognized by Region XV and earned Honorable Mention for his efforts.
Parr is a Business major and will be transferring to SUNY New Paltz in the fall to continue his academic and athletic career for the Hawks.
“I am extremely honored to be a part of Paddy’s extraordinary year at SUNY Ulster. He is the true identity of what a student athlete is supposed to be. I hope that current and future athletes at SUNY Ulster will follow in his example and become leaders in our community. SUNY New Paltz is gaining a great young man and future leader in the Hudson Valley, said SUNY Ulster Director of Athletics, Matt Brennie.”
