NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh Police Department is strongly advising taxi operators to follow the City Code Ordinances regarding Taxicabs.

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, Officers conducted the first of several enforcement details.

Police said this detail resulted in the issuance of ten traffic tickets, five appearance tickets, one custodial arrest, and the impoundment of one taxi.

City code violations have a maximum fine of $250, 15 days in jail or both.

Enforcement will focus on taxi drivers and taxi companies who wholly operate within the City’s municipal boundaries.

Taxi drivers operating within City limits are required to have a valid driver’s license, and the taxicabs they are operating are required to have a taxicab license issued by the City of Newburgh.

All applications for taxicab driver’s licenses and taxicab licenses are available on the City of Newburgh’s website and can also be obtained in person at the Clerk’s Office at City Hall.
