Tom Urtz of ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. surprised representatives of Hudson Valley Honor Flight with a check for $100,000 during a sendoff ceremony for its Spring Mission #11, which departed from Stewart International Airport on Saturday, April 2.

A strong supporter of Hudson Valley Honor Flight since its 2012 inception, ShopRite’s recent contribution helped fund Spring Mission #11, and will also lend financial support for Mission #13, slated to take off from Stewart later this year.

Hudson Valley Honor Flight arranges one-day, all-expense-paid journeys for veterans that include visits to the World War II and Iwo Jima Memorial, as well as attendance at the Changing of the Guard at Arlington Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Its April 2 mission included flights for 21 Korean War veterans (two of whom also served in Vietnam) and 62 World War II veterans from Passaic and Warren Counties in NJ; Bronx, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester Counties in NY; and Pike County in PA.
