POUGHKEEPSIE – Friday night was a classic match up at the Pioneer Classic Shootout in the gym at Poughkeepsie High School. Highland and Spackenkill faced off in the early game and the Spartans were already in mid-season form with a commanding 75-59 win.
Kyiev Bennermon was a force under the basket and finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but he wasn’t the only Spackenkill player to put up a double-double on the night. Alex Strom finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds – and the smallest guy on the court, Cameron Abalos showed that size doesn’t matter – the 5’6 standout quarterback of the football team was the high scorer of the night with 29 points while also creating a defensive havoc, grabbing 7 steals.
Highland’s Doran Baker led the Huskies with 12 points, followed by Evan Murphy who finished with 10.
