To receive the award, the Hudson Valley-based cardiology group was one of 36 practices that demonstrated a high level of care for patients with atrial fibrillation.
This irregular and often rapid heartbeat condition affects more than 2.5 million Americans and is responsible for 15 to 20 percent of all strokes, making clinical practice guidelines essential for stroke prevention, according to the American College of Cardiology.
“We are committed to heart disease patients receiving the best possible care and are proud to recognize the Heart Center for providing the highest standards of care for their patients,” said Dr. Kim Allan Williams, president of the cardiology medical society.
“Being recognized as a Center of Excellence is a critical step in saving lives and improving patient outcomes,” said Dr. Mark Harrison, a cardiologist with The Heart Center who specializes in non-invasive procedures.
The award is based on the Pinnacle Registry of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry, which contains more than 16 million patient records from 2,800 cardiology providers across the country. The cardiology medical society operates the registries to measure and improve care.
